New Alaska Survey Research Poll Shows Tom Begich Leading in Primary Field
ANCHORAGE — A new poll from Alaska Survey Research shows Tom Begich leading the race for governor in a crowded primary field, demonstrating strong and durable support as more candidates enter the race.
In the primary, where voters can choose only one candidate, Tom Begich earns roughly a fifth of the vote, maintaining a clear lead even as the field expands. Begich leads the field at 19.4%, ahead of the next closest candidate at 13.6%, with the remaining candidates in single digits.
These results are consistent with prior polling. A February survey from Lake Research Partners and an earlier Alaska Survey Research poll in October both showed Tom Begich leading in the primary and general election, with support consistently around one-fifth of the vote. This points to a stable and committed base of support statewide.
“Even with more candidates joining the race, our campaign is holding onto a solid share of the polling,” said Begich. “These results are encouraging and show that we can win this race. But polls don’t win elections, people do.”
Alaska’s general election uses a ranked choice system. The top four candidates advance and voters can rank their preferences. As the field narrows, support is expected to consolidate, positioning campaigns with broad appeal and clear vision to succeed.
“In the primary, voters choose one candidate. In the general, they can rank their choices,” Begich said. “This race will come down to who can bring people together. We’re building a campaign that reaches across communities and focuses on what matters most to Alaskans: lowering costs, strengthening our schools, and creating a future where people can stay and thrive in Alaska.”
Tom Begich is calling on supporters across Alaska to build on this momentum by getting involved.
“If you believe in this campaign, now is the time to join us,” Begich said. “Volunteer, contribute, and help us reach more people. That’s how we turn momentum into a win.”
The survey was conducted March 19–22, 2026 among 1,061 likely primary voters statewide, with a margin of error of +/- 2.5–3.0%.
