Julia Hnilicka for lt. governor

Meet Julia

I was raised in Nenana by a tugboat captain and a teacher. I grew up understanding the realities of life in rural Alaska: high costs, limited infrastructure, long winters, and communities that survive because people show up for one another.

I’m running with Tom because

We believe Alaska should work for the people who live here, not just the well-connected few.

Right now, too many Alaskans are struggling to afford the basics. Young people are leaving. Rural communities are still being left behind. Alaska Native communities continue to face huge gaps in housing, infrastructure, healthcare access, and economic opportunity despite contributing so much to the strength and identity of this state.

I cannot sit by and watch that become normal.

I’ve spent my career working directly with communities across Alaska

To help build housing, improve infrastructure, expand broadband, and bring investment to places too often overlooked. As Alaska State Director for USDA Rural Development, I worked with rural Alaskan communities to access investments in housing, water systems, broadband, and local development.

That has to change.

Tom and I believe in an Alaska where:

Families can afford to stay here.

Rural communities are invested in, not ignored.

Schools are strong and reliable.

Infrastructure is maintained and improved.

And Alaska’s resources benefit Alaskans.

I’m not running because politics was part of some long-term plan for me.

I’m running because I care deeply about this state and the people who call it home.

I want the younger generation of Alaskans to grow up believing their future is here, not somewhere else.

I want rural and Alaska Native communities to have the infrastructure, investment, and respect they deserve.

And I want Alaska to believe in itself again.
