Inlandboatmen’s Union of the Pacific, Alaska Endorses Tom Begich for Governor

Unanimous endorsement highlights importance of Marine Highway stability, workforce training, and collaboration with labor

JUNEAU — The Inlandboatmen’s Union of the Pacific, Alaska (IBUP) has endorsed Tom Begich for Governor of Alaska.

The endorsement reflects shared priorities around protecting the Alaska Marine Highway System and keeping it strong for the long term. IBUP represents maritime and shoreside workers across Alaska, including many who work on or support the Alaska Marine Highway. For coastal and rural communities, the Marine Highway is a critical lifeline.

The union and Begich share a focus on protecting federal infrastructure funding and making sure those dollars are used to strengthen the Marine Highway system over time, not weakened by short-term political decisions. They also share a commitment to working directly with labor and communities when making decisions that affect jobs, infrastructure, and public services.

Another shared priority is investing in Alaska’s maritime workforce, including training and career pathways that allow Alaskans to work, advance, and stay in the state.

“I’m proud to have the support of the Inlandboatmen’s Union of the Pacific, Alaska,” said Tom Begich. “As Governor, I will protect federal funding for the Alaska Marine Highway, invest in maritime training and good jobs, and make sure labor has a seat at the table when decisions are made. Alaska works best when we plan ahead and work together.”
