Tom Begich is a lifelong Alaskan shaped by the values that define our state: self-reliance, independence, helping neighbors, and taking care of one another.

Tom Begich grew up in Alaska surrounded by the people and places that shaped his commitment to public service. 

From Anchorage neighborhoods to rural communities, he knows that resilience is what makes Alaska special. We solve our own problems by rolling up our sleeves, collaborating, and working with our neighbors.

His work as an organizer, facilitator, musician and poet brought him into multiple communities across the state, teaching him that Alaska’s future depends on investing in our people. Tom lives in Anchorage with his wife, Sarah.

as a State Senator,  small business owner, and  local community leader, Tom has pushed for a stronger economy, a dependable education system, and an energy plan that lowers costs for Alaskans.

PUBLIC SAFETY EXPERIENCE

Tom has spent three decades strengthening youth development, public health, public safety, and substance abuse prevention systems across Alaska. Through his leadership in juvenile justice, including chairing the Alaska Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee and serving as National Chair of the Coalition for Juvenile Justice, he has helped many communities increase safety and stability. 

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

Tom’s statewide community planning work gives him a unique understanding of the local systems that shape food access, affordable housing, and the community infrastructure Alaskan families depend on. He continues to visit and learn about the needs of Alaskan communities. 

ENERGY EXPERIENCE

As a State Senator, Tom co-founded the Innovation Caucus, served on the World Trade Committee, and championed legislation to expand affordable alternative energy. His focus has always been on reducing our cost of living and strengthening Alaska’s long-term energy independence.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

For over twenty years, Tom has worked on education and youth development. In the State Senate, he worked across party lines to expand Pre-K, improve literacy, and fund Alaska schools. He listens to parents, teachers, and students to deliver policies rooted in their needs.

ECONOMIC EXPERIENCE

Tom has helped communities plan for the future, from the Northwest Arctic Borough to Ketchikan. Through CW Communications, he has spent over three decades helping organizations and communities grow stronger, secure funding, and establish the foundations for long-term economic stability.
