I spent years working in communities across Alaska — from Anchorage to Ketchikan to the Northwest Arctic and Western Alaska — long before I ever ran for office. I worked on public safety, youth programs, community planning, and economic development.I didn’t run for the Senate to build my resume, I ran because I had seen things broken firsthand, I wanted to help fix them, and I knew I could.A few years ago, I stepped back from the State Senate because I believed Alaska was moving in the right direction. My wife Sarah and I returned to the work that has always grounded us — organizing, facilitating, education, music, and poetry. But we were shaken by what we saw was happening to our state. Alaskans are being stretched thin now more than ever.

For years, outsiders have taken our resources, refused to pay their fair share, and left Alaskans paying the price through struggling schools, a PFD in doubt, rising crime, higher grocery and fuel costs, and too many young people leaving. This decline is not normal, and I’m not willing to accept it.

To help build housing, improve infrastructure, expand broadband, and bring investment to places too often overlooked. As Alaska State Director for USDA Rural Development, I worked with rural Alaskan communities to access investments in housing, water systems, broadband, and local development.That has to change.

Keep the Lights On. Lower the Bills. I helped found the Senate Innovation Caucus and worked to expand affordable energy solutions that actually lower costs for Alaska families.My focus has always been simple: keep the lights on, lower the bills, and make Alaska more self-reliant for the long haul.

I know the value of a hard day’s work. I know that resilience is what truly makes Alaska special. We solve our own problems by rolling up our sleeves getting the job done.&nbsp;I have done exactly that as a State Senator, small business owner, and local community leader.&nbsp; I have fought for a stronger economy, a dependable education system, and an energy plan that lowers costs for Alaskans for decades to come.
