IBEW 1547 ANNOUNCES DUAL-ENDORSEMENT FOR ALASKA GOVERNOR IN 2026 PRIMARY ELECTION

ANCHORAGE — IBEW 1547 is proud to endorse both Tom Begich and Click Bishop for Alaska Governor in the primary election on August 18, 2026. While multiple candidates in the crowded field have a history of supporting organized labor, both Tom Begich and Click Bishop are steadfast champions who will do right by IBEW 1547 membership. Tom Begich is a proud 35-year member of IBEW Local 1547.  Click Bishop is a proud 51-year member of IUOE Local 302.

In the August 18 pick-1 primary, members are encouraged to vote for which of the two candidates best fits their values and vision for Alaska. Both longtime union members have a plan to build our state, champion pro-labor policies, and make our state a better place for working men and women.

“Both Tom and Click have the experience and skills to walk into the Governor’s office on day one and hit the ground running,” said IBEW 1547 Business Manager Doug Tansy.

“We have a long history of working together with Tom and Click. Both are staunch supporters of collective bargaining rights, prevailing wage, a strong education system, and investing in our local workforce,” said President Cecil Colley.

IBEW 1547 represents over 4,200 workers across the state of Alaska in the electrical industry and many other diverse classifications and occupations. Our mission is to ensure all workers in the electrical industry and beyond are organized to secure better wages, a voice on the job, and safe working conditions.

“This dual endorsement reflects our belief that good ideas and a vision for a better Alaska are not limited to one political party. What matters is not the letter next to a candidate’s name, but that they engage with working Alaskans and champion policies that create safe, good-paying jobs, limit barriers to organizing, and expand collective bargaining rights,” said Business Manager Doug Tansy.

IBEW 1547 will evaluate the outcome of the 2026 Primary Election before making an endorsement for the 2026 General Election.
